Fall 2009

In this section:

The World Is Our Classroom - Students Go Global In Europe and China: Along with semester-long study abroad programs offered by Loyola's Center for International Education, the College of Business offers summer study abroad programs to Europe and China.

The Flip-Flop Guy: Using the Power of Capitalism to Create Positive Social Change:  Alumnus Kyle Berner, '03, started his flip-flop company, Feelgoodz, in 2008. He's gone from selling 500 pair of fip-flops a month to 5,000 pairs in six weeks. That's a whole lot of flip-flips and the profits are going to benefit the people in Thailand who make the flip-flops possible.

The Eyes of West Texas Are Upon You: Loyola College of Business faculty member, Dr. Jerry Goolsby, the Hilton Baldridge Distinguished Chair in Music Industry Studies, fits the mold of the person you might expect to meet if your car broke down in Lazzbuddie, Texas. The road that brought Goolsby to Loyola from West Texas is, indeed, an extraordinary one.

From Lafayette to Loyola to Belize - A True Global Citizen: Good guys don't always finish last. Just ask alumnus Greg Fontenot, '09. He's indisputably nice, and he's finished well ahead of the pack. Fontenot, who was honored with the Ignatian Award -- the university's highest honor for graduating students, completed a degree in finance with a minor in pre-med while serving on a series of international immersion service trips to Belize and Jamaica and working with disadvantaged youth and elderly. He plans to spend the next year as a Jesuit Volunteer in Boise, Idaho, working as a healthcare advocate for the homeless. In fall 2010, he will enter medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orelans.
