Short Bio
Jerry Goolsby is the Director of Graduate Programs for the College of Business. Recently, he has led the initiative to reformat and enhance the MBA program curriculum. He is also the Hilton/Baldrige Eminent Scholar of Music Industry Studies and Professor of Marketing. He has been at Loyola for eleven years, after serving on the faculties of University of South Florida and Oklahoma State University. He received his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University, following a successful career in the musical instrument industry. A very student-oriented professor, Dr. Goolsby has won numerous teaching awards. His primary teaching interests are in music marketing, quality methods, market research, sales management, marketing management, marketing theory and marketing ethics.
An active researcher and writer, Dr. Goolsby's articles have been published in marketing's most prestigious journals including Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management.
Having an expertise in quality management, Dr. Goolsby has served as a research consultant to numerous companies and industry associations. Dr. Goolsby is most proud of his efforts in public education and children’s services, which have been duplicated in numerous states and countries. He is an active proponent of quality management and incorporates continuous improvement philosophies into all his classes.
Dr. Goolsby has served as a governor on the Recording Academy (Grammys) and has helped in numerous initiatives to raise money for musicians' social care and healthcare. He is a luthier and builds custom acoustic guitars, which are heralded by their owners and admirers. They tend to be very gaudy but with wonderful tone.
